I specialize in the Red Golden, dark russet colored dogs with relatively short hair, better known in America because this old breed of retriever has been completely extinct in England for over 150 years. In addition to being very sweet and affectionate goldens, these dogs have lost none of their original qualities, hence their great ease in being trained for hunting, agility, tracking (missing people, drugs , a flair for detecting certain diseases such as diabetes, certain cancer metastases, etc.) and any other sporting activity requiring concentration and listening.
My concerns in breeding are to provide dogs of good genetics and meeting the standards of the breed, and who have successfully passed the health tests to be breeding. My dogs are raised individually, in obedience and agility. I try to find the best way to maximize each dog’s talents, and I’m not afraid to step out of my comfort zone!
We are member of : United Kennel Club and Canadian Kennel Club.

In summer, the dogs enjoy Lac Echo, which is a few minutes walk away, they love to swim! My dogs and puppies live with me in the house.
Since 2008, Diane has developped raw food recipes with a nutritionist for her dogs and puppies, which is where the Gourmet 4 Pattes business was born. Even today, my dogs are fed 100% natural, with anti-cancer recipes. They therefore have a very muscular physical structure and great vitality. We are therefore at our 5th generation of dogs that are fed exclusively raw.
My puppies are also started raw and more and more people continue raw after adoption!

We have 2 to 3 litters per year. Puppies are all reserved at birth. I therefore advise you to plan your adoption and make the reservation at least 6 months in advance.
We take your preferences for the sex of the puppy, but Mother Nature decides! In case you want a specific sex, booking more in advance assures you of your choice. That said, I prefer to have the latitude to provide you with a puppy according to its temperament, therefore to provide you with a choice between 2 puppies that will meet your family, training or other needs. During the evaluations that I do of the puppies, be able to direct you well. The choice of sex for me takes second place. The ideal is to discuss it together.
Type of families we are looking for: active, with or without children, ready to train the puppy, to take obedience lessons. . Have access to large spaces to let the dog run freely, and/or be active enough to jog with the dog (roller-skating, cycling, canicross, skijoring, hunting, etc.). These dogs need about 1 hour of sustained exercise per day. When puppy, calculate from 8 weeks to 16 weeks 4 to 6 periods of 10 minutes of training in the house per day to initiate the basic commands, apart from pee walks….
Puppies have a privileged space with their mother because from birth to 3 weeks everything is orchestrated by the mother. I just put up with it, wash and change the sheets and blankets 2-3 times a day, check that everyone is taking their weight and their place.
From the 2nd week, I introduce noises at specific times to accustom the puppies. When mom is around, everything is ¨friendly¨. Cutting of the claws of the puppies is done once a week from 2 weeks, to allow the mother not to be scratched by her babies, and also to allow you to have a puppy with short claws at the time of adoption. It’s easier to continue when the puppy has already been handled as a toddler.
At 4 weeks, depending on the litters, I introduce homemade food to support the mother. I get them used to doing their business in a litter. Puppies don’t like to be dirty. They quickly appreciate and understand this use.
At 5 weeks, I introduce the raw, puppy formula, made expressly for them. Depending on the time of year, I take the puppies outside at certain times. They are placed in a situation with adults other than their mother, to enable them to learn how to behave.
At 6 weeks, they are vaccinated and microchipped. At 4 and 6 weeks they are dewormed.
10 days after their vaccine, they are ready to join their new family. From 8 to 16 weeks, the puppy will be like a sponge and he will learn a lot with his new family. I suggest a training video for this buffer period where the puppy, having not had all his vaccines, is vulnerable to certain diseases that can be encountered outside.
Important : I remain the 2nd owner of your puppy. Thus, if you “change your mind” 3 months (or whatever the delay) after the adoption, you must return the puppy to me and I will take care of finding him a new family. There is no financial compensation if you return your puppy or dog. Likewise, if you cannot keep your dog in the future for any reason, you must contact me and together we can find a solution for your dog. This lets me know that all my puppies and dogs are well adopted and are not ending up in shelters or given away to people who don’t want them….A donated dog is very easy to give up….
GUARANTEE: Puppies are guaranteed for 24 months for the heart, eyes, hips and elbows.
Registration: All puppies are registered and sold with a non-breeding agreement.
Sterilization: Female puppies must be sterilized after their first heat. Male puppies should not be neutered before they are 2 years old. This is an obligation stipulated in the contract.
Since we work with living beings and our goal is to find responsible families for our puppies, we ask that you think carefully before deciding to adopt. Therefore, reservation deposits are non-refundable.
Here are the health tests that must be done in order to mate one of our dogs. We update the health tests of our dogs as they are done.
We did hip/elbow x-rays after 2 years of age and had them OFA (ORTHOPEDIC FOUNDATION FOR ANIMALS, US) approved.
Recently, we have started working with the PENN/HIPS test for hips, a test which more accurately gives the hip laxity of a specimen compared to the whole population of x-rayed dogs of the same breed. Future breeders will either be tested by a PENNHIP, with OFA elbows tested, or OFA hips and elbows. For example, Buddy, and Harry both had a 91% percentile result for their PENHIPS hips, compared to an average of 54% for the average golden PENHIPS tested in 2013 (15,000 dogs) which will automatically improve from the start. first generation of puppies with them the already good hips of our breeding.
The genetic tests to be done imply that one of the 2 parents must be considered CLEAR so that the puppies are not affected. PRA-1 and PRCD tests are therefore only performed if the grandparents were not tested or came out CARRIER or AFFECTED during the tests. The latest results from the American College of Veterinary Ophthalmologists in 2013 show only 11 out of 20,756 cases examined for the eyes with these problems, which means a decrease of only 2 to 1% of affected dogs since 1991.
CERF is an easy eye test that involves putting a drop in each dog’s eye to dilate the pupil. The specialist examines the dog 10 minutes later and is able to assess the quality of the retina, blood veins in the eye. He confirms to us on the spot if the dog is ok and we then receive an OFA certificate for the eyes of the said dog. The CERF should in theory be done every year.
The OFA test for the heart consists of taking the pulses of the heart at rest, then after the effort of a race. To do once in the life of the dog.
For breeding, everything is possible thanks to our partners. Whether veterinarians, groomers, nutritionists, trainers, chiropractors, osteopaths, homeopaths, ophthalmologists, acupuncturists, orthopedists, all have, from near or far, had their say.

Ophthalmologist: Dr. Frank Olivier ophtalmo-animo clinic on Sherbrooke Street West in Montreal. Frank performs all CERF tests on my dogs and puppies.
Orthopedics: Dr. Huneault, is, for any structural problem, a reference in the matter. He works at the Clinique DMV de la Rive-Sud.
Ce qui m’a attirée chez Marley, c’est à la fois son côté intrépide et réservé. Il a autant besoin de se faire caresser les quatre fers en l’air que de bouger librement en forêt. Fils de Chili, on retrouve en lui la bonté de sa mère. Il a aussi la même manie que sa mère de cacher sa nourriture ou ses jouets dans la terre en s’imaginant(!) que les autres chiens ne les trouveront pas…

Plume est un chien unique en son genre. Il ne manque pas une occasion d’impressionner la galerie par ses remarquables prouesses au frisbee et par ses plongeons spectaculaires dans l’eau. Plume est aussi un incroyable nageur. Il peut passer des heures à rapporter son bâton sans jamais démontrer le moindre signe de fatigue. Doux et affectueux, Plume charme littéralement tous ceux qu’il croise grâce à son attachante personnalité et à sa grande sociabilité.

Django est un chien énergique habitué à vivre sur une terre au nord du Québec. Il adore courir de longues distances et se baigner dans la rivière. Très affectueux avec les humains, il s’entend aussi à merveille avec les autres animaux. Lorsque je l’ai amené à Montréal pour des tests de santé, il s’est avéré un chien calme, sur de lui, curieux et très obéissant.

Super focus, elle adore apprendre de nouveaux ”tricks”! Elle prend exemple sur ses soeurs, Sally est une bonne vivante!
