Breed

The red golden has a dynamic attitude and is highly devoted to his family. Excellent working dog, he has been brought in America around 1850 and we no longer see that bloodline in England since then. This red golden is energetic, intelligent, hard worker and easy going family dog. Their coat is very dark and shorter than the lighter golden’s. He has kept all of his ancester’s characteristics, such as: being muscled, highly obedient and intelligent, huge retriever.

Mission :

My breeding program is based on good genetic subjects, in the breed standards, with successfull health tests results to be bred. I train them individually, in obedience and agility. I always try to find what makes them go for, to maximise their talents even if I have to get out of my comfort zone!
We are members of the United Kennel Club and the Canadian Kennel Club.

Our environment

env-img

Located in Piedmont, Laurentides, by the river, I have a 20,000 square feet pen where we can do daily exercise. We also have an easy access to mountains and surrounding lakes.  My dogs and puppies live in my house with us.

Nutrition

env-img

Since 2008 I have been hardly working on raw food recipes for my dogs and puppies. I can assure you that my dogs are 100% fed naturally, with well-balanced recipes, and against cancer. They have a very bulky physical appearance with a high vitality. I am now at my fifth generation of females being exclusively on raw food.

My pups are also started with raw at 5 weeks, and more and more people adopting my pups are continuing raw feeding. I now have access to 2 studs that are also raw fed .This means that within a few more years, the bad effects of kibbles will no longer be in my bloodlines!

Puppies & Adoption

env-img

We have 2 to 3 litters per year. Normally, pups are all spoken for when the mom delivers.  Calculate to make a reservation 6 months before adoption. Of course we take your preferences (male or female) but Mother Nature decides! So if you really want a particular sex, you should reserve longer in advance. I prefer to have the leeway to offer you the choice between two puppies that could fit your needs, regardless of the sex.    In these puppies we are looking at a temperament first, then at a sex. The best way is to discuss it together.

Ideal families: active families, with or without children, ready to train the puppy, to take obedience classes , to have access to wide-open spaces to let the dog run freely, and /or be active enough to take the dog jogging, biking, roller-skating, , canicross, skijoring, hunting etc. Those dogs need about an hour of good level of exercise per day. When puppy, consider, between 8 weeks and 16 weeks,
4 to 6 daily training of 10 minutes to initiate the basic commands, on top of the pee and poo walks….

An adoption guide is available on my site for any question on toys, kennel use, vaccination, etc. Other material will be given to people who will reserve: puppy development steps, socialisation, puppy care, etc.

Puppies’ life from day 1 to 7.5  weeks.

During the first 3 weeks I support the mom who does all the work. I change and wash the sheets, make sure that each and everyone gets his share. At 2 weeks, I start to introduce at specific moments, different noises that become familiar as they are shared with brothers and sisters and mommy. I start to cut nails at 2 weeks, once a week.  That helps mommy not getting armed by her pup’s nails and that gets the pups to be manipulated very young.  At 4 weeks I introduce the litter tray, so they get use to do their business there.  Weather permitting I will start to bring them outside by periods and to make them meet other adult dogs to start to know how to behave with others…

I deworm them at 4 and 6 weeks. At 6 weeks they are needled and micro-chipped.  During the 7th week, I evaluate the puppies and I am in position to direct the puppies towards a family or another.  10 days after their vaccination they are ready to go in their new family. I strongly suggest the families to use a puppy training video from 8 to 16 weeks of age, period where their immunities are not completed and training done from home more adequate, as they are like sponge to any of your demands.

Important: I stay 2nd owner of the puppy in all cases. So, if you either change your mind or get fed up of the puppy your have the obligation to bring me the puppy back and I will find him a new family. There is no financial compensation when you return the puppy or the dog. If later on in your dog’s life you can’t keep him for any reason, you have to get hold of me so we can find a solution for your dog. That makes me sleep at night to always know where my puppies are. No dog of my kennel can be given away to someone else. A given dog is very easy to drop, and I don’t want to find any of my dogs in a shelter.

Warranty: All pups are guaranteed for 24 months for heart, eyes, hips and elbows.

Registration: All pups are registered and sold with a non-breeding agreement.

Female pups neutering: The female puppy should be neutered not before 6 months, but no later than 12months. As their heats arrive between 6 and 8 months, that is the best time to neuter them.

Male pups neutering: The male puppy should be neutered not before 2 years of age.
These neutering obligations are part of the contract.

As we are working with living things, and that our goal is to find reliable families for our puppies, we are asking you to think carefully before deciding to adopt. Therefore, deposits for reservation are not refundable.

Health tests

env-img

The following health tests must be done before we breed one of our dogs.

Hips and elbows: Up to now, we were doing an OFA hips and elbow test at the age of 2 years old, (we will still continue to use it ), but we will add a different and more accurate way of testing hips (PENNHIPS) that can be now used. This way calculates the laxity of hips of a certain dog compare to the whole population of same breed that have been tested the same way. For golden retrievers, the average PENNHIP in 2013, is 54% on a 15,000 dogs tested. Anything over 54% is amelioration to the hips quality of a future litter. Per example, Harry and Buddy, which will be in our breeding program, have both a 91% PENHIP result, nearly perfect! We can then look forward to even better hips in our puppies at the first generation of breeding with either Buddy or Harry.

Eyes: The genetic tests to do are PRA-1 and PRCD. Those tests have to be made if one of the parents were either CARRIER or AFFECTED. If one of the parents is CLEAR, the pups won’t be affected. The 2013 College of veterinary of Ophthalmologists (US) quotes that there has been 11 cases of PRA out of 20756 dogs tested in 2012. The numbers have declined from 77 in 1991 out of 50489 dogs tested to 11 last year. We are looking at a decrease from 2% to 1% only of the population of golden retrievers since 1991.

CERF: The CERF is an easy eye test made by an ophthalmologist. He puts some drops in the dog’s eye to expand the pupil. 10 minutes later, he examines the eye, the pupil, and the veins. He can tell us on the spot the result, and sends us a confirmation later on. This eye examination, in theory, is supposed to be done yearly.

Heart: OFA. This easy test is to be done once in the dog’s life. The specialist takes the heart beat at rest, and after a run.

Our partners

env-img

To do a good job as a breeder, we need partners. My vision of partners is people who will give me answers when needed. I also look at natural care like acupuncture, chiropractor, homeopathy,
osteopathy, as remedies that can solve many problems with our dogs and have no damages on their immune system, or body. I am also giving you some grooming and training references that I have already tried and with which I am confident on. So, without hesitation, I recommend you as follow:

Hôpital vétérinaire de Piedmont: Owner: David Mance.
Dave is my dogs and pups vet. It is him and his team that vaccines, examins, and microchip my pups. It is also him that saved my Cayenne at 8 months when she had eaten a collar….After the surgery, she was not feeling well. Sleepless during the following night of surgery, Dave arrived very early at the hospital the next morning, and reopened my girl, feeling there was something wrong…
Madeleine Tremblay: vet at the same clinic, Madeleine has made her chiropractor training and will be taking care of my dogs, either after agility training or before or after whelping to ensure they are all ok…

G4P’s nutritionist. She is the one formulating the dog food formulas. Changing things upon request, she is always available to answer my questions. Don’t hesitate to ask me….
Acupuncture and ostheopathy: Julie Beaubien is ostheopath and acupuntur. You can reach her through her website. She is also veterinary.

Homeopathy: Dogs react perfectly to homeopathy. Manon Girard is a vet specialized in homeopathy. You can reach her at the Clinique Vétérinaire 440, on Des Laurentides Boulevard.
Orthopedic vet: Dr Huneault is a specialist that you can reach at DMV south shore. He is a very knowledgeable doctor that will give you the right answers if you have some querries about your dog’s articulations, or bone structure.

Ophtalmologist: Dr. Jean Sébastien Boileau is attached to DMV nord (Blainville) and to DMV Montreal (Lachine).
Grooming: I suggest you 2 groomers as I know they work positively with dogs. They also use high quality soaps.

Centre de tonte et toilettage de Ste-Thérèse: owner: Vicky Doucet. She grooms all my dogs.
